Theatre iconography archives

The Theatre Iconography Archive was founded at the initiative of Maria Teresa Muraro. It has been enriched gradually over the last thirty years and now counts more than 16,000 photographs, mounted on rigid cardboard, and 5000 colour slides. The images depict stage sets, costumes and illustrations of theatrical texts ranging from antiquity to the present. They provide a unique corpus that gives scholars immediate access to the subjects they wish to explore. The strength of the Archives’ methodology has been attested by its adoption in various academic settings in Italy and abroad.
