The In keeping with its annual tradition, the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies is organising an intensive workshop on the theory and practice of tabla (Indian percussion).
The workshop has been held by Sankha Chatterjee of the University of Calcutta, an illustrious musician who has accompanied the major performers of classical Indian music. The tabla is a classical Indian membranophone, made through the coupling of timpani and a cylindrical drum, that can be played both solo and as accompaniment. Sankha Chatterjee has been leading the tabla course at the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies in Venice since 1979. This year's programme addresses the major theoretical and practical aspects of classical percussion instruments.
The course is open to beginners and more advanced students.
