Exhibition Il viaggio di Eleonora Duse intorno al mondo

plus Dec, 03 2010Jan, 23 2011

This exhibition sets out to explore the artistic world of Eleonora Duse, an actress who achieved “legendary” status at a time when Italy was arduously searching for a national identity. With the aim of providing an overall picture of the actress on the Italian and international cultural scene in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, the show not only highlights her importance for theatrical life in post-unity Italy but also for its social and civil history in general.

The exhibition also focuses on Duse’s creative freedom, independence and innovative spirit as well as her great entrepreneurial capabilities and undoubted organisational skills, as shown by her personal, hands-on role in theatre production in her long and varied career.

The exhibition has been curated by Maurizio Scaparro, Maria Ida Biggi and Alessandro Nicosia, with the assistance of Silvia Griggio and Marianna Zannoni.
The catalogue is published by Skira.
