Rooms
Salone degli Arazzi
The Salone degli Arazzi is the Foundation’s most spacious room with the largest capacity. Its 489 sq. m. can hold 500 people. Created from the rooms in the novitiate of the former Benedictine monastery at the entrance to the grounds, the grand Salone degli Arazzi is the setting for major events at the Foundation. It is decorated with a very fine series of large tapestries, made in Brussels from the 16th to the 18th century, depicting the life of Scipio, the months of the year, and hunting, landscape and animal scenes.
Cenacolo Palladiano
The Cenacolo Palladiano is definitely the most remarkable room in the Foundation in terms of architectural history. Its 339 sq. m. can hold around 300 people. This magnificent refectory was built at the end of the 16th century by the celebrated architect Andrea Palladio in collaboration with the great painter Paolo Caliari called Veronese. To create a more theatrical setting and to open up the furthest wall, Veronese painted the Wedding at Cana, a breathtaking work, seized by Napoleon and now in the Louvre in Paris. Veronese’s work has returned, in facsimiles, to its original location in September 2007.
Sala Barbantini
The Sala Barbantini is dedicated to Nino Barbantini, an eminent art historian and first president of the Foundation in 1951. Situated on the first floor, next to Longhena’s Library, the room houses a major collection of sources and publications of key importance for art history research and studies. The Library is enhanced by a collection of 17th-century majolicas, a legacy from Vittorio Cini. The room can hold around 100 people and is ideal for smaller sized conferences or work sessions during large events.
Sala del Consiglio and Sala del Soffitto
The Sala del Consiglio and Sala del Soffitto are two elegant small rooms near the president’s office on the first floor. They have a capacity of 50 and 30 people, respectively. Decorated with precious furnishings, wooden sculptures and fine paintings, these exclusive rooms are traditionally used for private meetings and for signing important agreements.
Sala Carnelutti and Piccolo Teatro
The Sala Carnelutti and Piccolo Teatro are two rooms situated in the Napoleonic area of the island, to the side of Palladio’s basilica. The large room dedicated to Francesco Carnelutti, first president of the Foundation’s Centre of Culture and Civilisation, has a capacity of 350 people, while the Piccolo Teatro can hold around 200 people. The rooms are adjacent and have an entrance foyer, also used for the bookshop and ticket office during the many exhibitions periodically organized by the Foundation.
