This research is the continuation of a pilot inquiry on the theme of the pastoral, the bucolic, and pastorality in music; it aims to systematically illustrate a theory concerning the role continuously played by the pastoral genre (in all its evolutionary and metaphorical aspects) in the modern definition of art music as opposed to functional music.
