Online seminar | Disseminating the knowledge of world music

On the occasion of the achievement of one million views of the Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies Playlist on the Giorgio Cini Foundation YouTube channel – an important milestone for the research and dissemination activity that has always characterized the mission of the Institute – the IISMC organizes a seminar to reflect on issues of intercultural music teaching with experts in the field of ethnomusicology and teaching and to present new projects.

 

Over the past few years, in fact, the Institute has been very committed to enhancing the materials of its important archive in an informative and didactic key, forming a working group on these issues, which includes: Giovanni Giuriati, Lorenzo Chiarofonte; Marco Lutzu; Simone Tarsitani and Costantino Vecchi.

 

During the seminar, a first part will be dedicated to the illustration of the contents and criteria with which the playlist of video clips from the archive was created, which has reached over 80 documents on musical and dance traditions from 26 different Asian and African countries. Americans, Europeans.

The speakers will present examples of the use of these videos in educational and educational contexts in different parts of the world and will report some new features planned on the Giorgio Cini Foundation website, such as an interactive map to explore and deepen the music documented in the published videos.

 

This will be followed by the presentation of a new project entitled Guides to Listening to World Music: Intercultural Music Didactic Paths by Lorenzo Chiarofonte.
