Study Day in Memory of Prisco Bagni (1921 – 1995) Prisco Bagni, Passion and Research from Guercino to Gandolfi

Island of San Giorgio Maggiore
plus JUN, 15 2022

On occasion of the donation of Prisco Bagni’s documentary and photographic archives to the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the Institute of Art History is holding a study day in his memory. One of the most highly estimated art historians in the field of Emilian painting and drawing, Bagni was a leading specialist in Guercino studies. His collection mainly consists in about two thousand images related to the production of the Bolognese Gandolfi family. The material collected by Bagni, mostly in preparation of a monograph published in 1992, is a valuable resource for research given that the Institute of Art History holds one of the largest collection of Gandolfi drawings.

In the course of the study day – coordinated by Marco Riccomini and with the participation of Cristiana Romalli, Arabella Cifani, Franco Monetti, Giulio Zavatta, Massimo Pulini and Francesca Lui – some of the main topics of Bagni’s studies will be explored, with papers on Guercino, Cento artists (such as the Gennari family) and other Emilian artists who are represented by the Fondazione Giorgio Cini graphic art collections.
