The prize acknowledges and enhances his liter-ary and artistic contribution through his vast correspondence, which includes exchanges with numerous Italian and European figures, archived among the literary collections on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore. A jury made up of writers, university lecturers and critics gives an award for a translated work published during the year, and also gives a prize to the best young translator.
