VENINI 1932\u20131947<\/strong>, curated by\u00a0<strong>Marino Barovier<\/strong>, will open to the public on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice.<\/div>\n<div>Consisting of over\u00a0<strong>300 works<\/strong>, the exhibition reconstructs Carlo Scarpa\u2019s career in the\u00a0years when he was artistic director of the Venini glassworks, from 1932 to 1947. Due to\u00a0run until 29 November 2012 and open from 10 am to 7 pm (free admission, closed\u00a0on Wednesdays), this exhibition is the first public event of\u00a0<strong>Le STANZE DEL VETRO (Rooms\u00a0<\/strong><strong>for Glass<\/strong>)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cini.it\/en\/site\/show\/10\">,<\/a>\u00a0a long-term cultural project launched by the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in\u00a0collaboration with\u00a0<strong>Pentagram Stiftung\u00a0<\/strong>for the purpose of studying and showcasing the\u00a0art of Venetian glassmaking in the 20th century.<\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>The exhibition<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>The works are divided into around\u00a0<strong>thirty types<\/strong>\u00a0that vary according to execution techniques\u00a0and glass textures (from sommerso to murrine romane, corrosi and a pennellate glass).<\/div>\n<div>The material on show also includes prototypes, one-off items, original drawings and\u00a0designs, plus period photographs and archive documents.\u00a0The exhibition explores the significance and importance of Carlo Scarpa\u2019s glass design\u00a0experience in his overall work. During his Murano period, Scarpa further developed\u00a0his interests in experimentation and craftsmanship and the show thus provides a great\u00a0opportunity to compare his work as a glass and furniture designer and his architecture.\u00a0The<strong>\u00a0exhibition itinerary<\/strong>\u00a0includes a video room showing two documentary films on the\u00a0relationship between the Venini glassworks and Carlo Scarpa. The films were produced by\u00a0<strong>Pentagram Stiftung<\/strong>and made by director Gian Luigi Calderone, who had previously made\u00a0Casa Venini, a film about the history of the Venini-Santillana family. The first film, a fifteenminute documentary entitled A Carlo Scarpa e ai suoi infiniti possibili (1984), shows\u00a0images of glass objects designed by Carlo Scarpa. The images are accompanied by the\u00a0music of Luigi Nono, composed in 1984 with the same title to commemorate his friend.\u00a0In the film the musicologist Stefano Bassanese illustrates the structure of the music and the\u00a0affinities between the designer and the composer. A second documentary Carlo Scarpa,\u00a0fuori dal paradiso (2012) describes Scarpa and his glass through personal accounts by\u00a0those who knew him well, such as former students and, especially, his son Tobia. The initiatives\u00a0will be dedicated not only to contemporary artists who have used glass as an original means\u00a0of expression and medium in their poetics but also to highlighting and studying the leading\u00a0producers and major collections of glass worldwide.\u00a0As part of Le Stanze del Vetro project, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, with the support of\u00a0<strong>Pentagram Stiftung<\/strong>, has set up a dedicated\u00a0<strong>Study Centre<\/strong>in its\u00a0<strong>Institute of Art History<\/strong>.
