\n“Daoist ritual: funerals and temple fairs in Shanx<\/strong>i”
\nTo accompany the Daoists’ performances, Dr Jones will first introduce folk ritual in China, and Daoist ritual in particular, and then focus on the Li household group in north Shanxi, introducing their history, their rituals, and their vocal liturgy and instrumental music, all against the background of successive modern eras of social change, again using filmed examples.<\/p>\n

\nIn collaboration with the Department of Studies on Asia and
\nMediterranean Africa, Ca’ Foscari University, Venice, and the Confucius
\nInstitutes of Venice, Turin, Milan and Rome, the Intercultural Institute
\nof Comparative Music Studies of the Giorgio Cini Foundation has
\norganised a third series of meetings dedicated to Chinese music.
\nThey consist of two lectures to be given by Professor Stephen Jones, a
\nleading expert on Chinese folk music, at the Palazzo Vendramin dei
\nCarmini and two concerts to be performed by the Li Manshan Daoist
\nmusicians at the Giorgio Cini Foundation and at the Auditorium Santa
\nMargherita, Venice.<\/p>\n
