As usual the traditional Historical Studies Seminar will be divided into\u00a0fi ve sessions over three days. The morning of 8 May will be devoted to\u00a0several speakers\u2019 personal accounts of Vittore Branca. The topic has
\nbeen included in this year\u2019s programme because Branca always supported\u00a0the idea of these seminars during his time at the Foundation.
\nThis year\u2019s topic Il pane e il companatico (\u201cBread and something\u201d),will be addressed from a number of points of view: the advent of maize,\u00a0feeding the hungry peasants in the 17th and 18th centuries with
\npolenta, especially in the Veneto countryside, nutrition on ships and\u00a0galleys, bread in Jewish festivities and stocking cereals and fl our.
