Ottoman Music Workshops Persian Language Compositions at the Ottoman Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>Intercultural Institute of Comparative Music Studies<\/strong> has organised\u00a0the third edition of<strong> B\u00eer\u00fbn, a series of advanced workshops on\u00a0classical Ottoman music<\/strong>, directed by <strong>Kudsi Erguner<\/strong>, and intended for\u00a0professional and semi-professional musicians. The term B\u00eer\u00fbn refers to\u00a0what was once the school for Ottoman court musicians. One of the\u00a0overall aims of the workshops is to make San Giorgio a centre for the\u00a0cultural development of and thinking about the musical heritage of\u00a0the Ottoman Empire in the Mediterranean basin. This year the workshop\u00a0will focus on the theme of Persian language composers at the\u00a0Ottoman court. For week a group of scholarship winners specialised\u00a0in various instruments (ney, \u00fbd, tanb\u00fbr, kan\u00fbn, kemen\u00e7e, percussions and voice) will explore\u00a0the works composed by Persian and Persian-language poets and several sultans at the Ottoman\u00a0court. Persian was the literary language in the area and regularly used by composers in the art\u00a0music tradition.
