The subjects of the photos are palettes of artists who have shaped the last hundred years of the history of European painting. To be installed in the <strong>Palladian Refectory<\/strong> on the<strong> Island of San Giorgio<\/strong>, the exhibition, entitled <strong>Das Meisterst\u00fcck<\/strong> (\u201cThe Masterpiece\u201d) reveals how the palette is a kind of \u201cindirect portrait\u201d of the artist and of his pictorial technique. Monumental photographs of the original palettes (c. 190 x 140 cm) provide an unprecedented historical key to the use of colour, organisation of space and brushwork of the \u201cportrayed\u201d artists.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, Schaller has worked on photographing the beauty of artists\u2019 palettes, seen as a window onto their creative genius &#8211; almost abstract landscapes of their artistic production.Capturing the essence of 180 palettes belonging to over 70 of the greatest 19th- and 20th-century European masters, Schaller explores the unconscious of painting, or the \u201cpaint before the painting\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Das Meisterst\u00fcck includes palettes of artists such as:<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">J.M.W. Turner<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Eug\u00e8ne Delacroix<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Paul C\u00e9zanne<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Claude Monet<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Vincent van Gogh<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Wassily Kandinsky<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Henri Matisse<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Pablo Picasso<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Francis Bacon<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #5f6062;\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: inherit;\">Cy Twombly<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The exhibition will feature a selection of around twenty palettes, casting light on the principal European art movements, from Impressionism to Abstract Art.
