The son of a Czech singer and organist, Zelenka probably received a Jesuit education before moving to\u00a0Dresden, when he is documented as a violinist and composer in the Hofkappelle from 1710-11. Stays in\u00a0Vienna and, possibly, Naples and Venice during the second decade of the eighteenth century helped to\u00a0mould a complex and original style, rich in experimental ideas already admired by Bach, Telemann,\u00a0Pisendel, Mattheson and Mizler.
\nOut of Zelenka\u2019s vast work, the compositions of the early 1720s will be examined during the seminar,\u00a0including the lamentations and the celebrated cycle of six sonatas zwv 181, a real sample of instrumental,\u00a0rhetorical and compositional virtuosity. The main teachers will be the renowned oboist \u2013 Alfredo
\nBernardini \u2013 and the vocalist-conductor \u2013 V\u00e1clav Luks. The Fondazione Giorgio Cini \u2013 with the contribution\u00a0and cooperation of the Fondation Concordance and the Fondazioni Irma Merk and L. + Th. La Roche (Basel,\u00a0Switzerland) \u2013 is offering seven scholarships for all active participants.<\/p>\n

The announcement is intended for professional or semi-professional instrumental ensembles* comprising\u00a0two oboes, a bassoon and thorough bass (harpsichord) and young solo singers**, specialising in the\u00a0eighteenth-century repertoire. Scholarships are available for all the selected active participants, which\u00a0cover the seminar enrolment fee, meals (breakfast and lunch only), board (at the Residenza del Centro\u00a0Internazionale di Studi Vittore Branca) and travel expenses (in economy class and up to a maximum of 700\u00a0euros, in any case to be agreed with the Seminar Secretary).<\/p>\n

To take part in the selection, candidates must send the following materials to the seminar secretary\u00a0(via email to: musica.antica@cini.it) by no later than 10 December 2017<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u2013\u00a0Detailed CV;<\/p>\n

\u2013 Copy of the passport or identity card<\/p>\n

\u2013 link to a video recording of two solo pieces (for the singers) and two chamber music<\/p>\n

pieces (for the ensembles), from the early eighteenth century.<\/p>\n

* Participation of the musicians will be from 19 to 24 February 2018<\/p>\n

** Participation of the solo singers will be from 21 to 24 February 2018<\/p>\n

N.B.: It is recommended that the video be loaded onto a platform in public or private mode and shared.<\/p>\n
