Coordinated by Bonaventura Ruperti, professor of the Japanese language\u00a0at Ca\u2019 Foscari University, Venice, these two events provide the\u00a0opportunity to meet the famous master and actor of Noh theatre,\u00a0Taneda Michikazu (born in Ky\u014dto), a member of the fourth generation\u00a0of the Taneda family, and acknowledged shokubun master, i.e.\u00a0a professional performer at the highest level of the Kong\u014d school.<\/p>\n
Taneda is the director of the Noh Association, deputy director of the\u00a0Kong\u014d School Association, a member of the Urasenke school of the\u00a0tea ceremony, professor at the Urasenke Gakuen, and author of a book\u00a0on the relationship between Noh and the tea ceremony. During the workshop open to students\u00a0and enthusiasts, Master Taneda will illustrate the dances in Noh theatre, highlighting the most\u00a0important aspects of stage movements and dramatic gesturing. The workshop will focus on the\u00a0Takasago plays with actors performing a dance of divinity, and Hagoromo, in which a celestial\u00a0creature dances.<\/p>\n
During the public meeting (5 pm, 1 March at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini),\u00a0Master Taneda will present some examples of dances (shimai) pertaining to gods, men, women,\u00a0madness and demons, thus demonstrating the peculiarities of the characters types. He will also\u00a0illustrate the movement patterns (kata) for expressing joy and pain, as they manifest themselves\u00a0in the gestures in Noh plays, and he will present some of the songs or recitations (utai) included\u00a0in Noh performances with the involvement of the audience.
