{"id":69910,"date":"2019-02-05T10:45:13","date_gmt":"2019-02-05T09:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cini.it\/?post_type=cini_events&#038;p=69910"},"modified":"2025-02-03T12:14:03","modified_gmt":"2025-02-03T11:14:03","slug":"burri-la-pittura-irriducibile-presenza","status":"publish","type":"cini_events","link":"https:\/\/www.cini.it\/en\/eventi\/burri-la-pittura-irriducibile-presenza\/","title":{"rendered":"BURRI la pittura, irriducibile presenza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Taking place at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, on the\u00a0island of San Giorgio Maggiore, <strong>between the 10th of May and 28th of July<\/strong>, <strong><em>BURRI la pittura, irriducibile presenza<\/em><\/strong> constitutes the final chapter of a series of international exhibitions and events staged to celebrate the avant-garde Italian artist Alberto Burri (1915-1995) over the course of the past year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Curated by <strong>Bruno Cor\u00e0<\/strong>, the President of the Fondazione Alberto Burri, and organised with the <strong>Fondazione Burri<\/strong> and in collaboration with <strong>Tornabuoni Art<\/strong> and <strong>Paola Sapone MCIA<\/strong>, in partnership with <strong>Intesa Sanpaolo<\/strong>, the exhibition, chronologically covers the many important facets of Burri\u2019s artistic output, and includes a number of masterpieces belonging to each phase of the artist\u2019s career \u2013 from the incredibly rare <em>Catrami<\/em> series, starting in 1948, to the final <em>Cellotex<\/em> works from 1994. The show presents <strong>around 50 masterpieces<\/strong> on loan from important museums in Italy and abroad, from the Fondazione Burri and from prestigious private collections. Significantly, the Fondazione Burri, in the artist\u2019s home town of Citt\u00e0 di Castello, Umbria, is lending many major works from its collection for the first time, creating a fuller picture of the artist than has previously been seen. Together, these works span the entire length of Burri\u2019s career as one of the most important figures in the Post-War art of the 20th century. The show is also somewhat of a <strong>homecoming for Burri, whose work was last shown in Venice<\/strong> in <strong>1983<\/strong>, when the former Cantieri Navali on the island of Giudecca played host to 18 examples from Burri\u2019s cycle of works entitled\u00a0<em>Sestante<\/em>, or \u2018Sextants\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is complemented by a <strong>multimedia archive<\/strong>, including never-before-seen film footage of the artist at work. A <strong>bilingual catalogue<\/strong> (Italian-English) with <strong>introductions<\/strong> by the\u00a0curator <strong>Bruno Cor\u00e0<\/strong>, President of the Fondazione Burri, and <strong>Luca Massimo Barbero<\/strong>, Director of the Institute of Art History at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, proves to be a useful tool in the study of Burri\u2019s work and also includes an updated bibliography.
