The conference is organized jointly by the Centre for Comparative Studies of\u00a0Civilisations and Spiritualities (Fondazione Giorgio Cini), the Center for the Study of World\u00a0Religions (Harvard Divinity School) the Department of Asian and North African Studies\u00a0(Ca\u2019 Foscari University), and the KIFO Institute for Church, Religion, and Worldview\u00a0Research.<\/p>\n

This conference explores the evolving concept of academic freedom from a global and\u00a0interdisciplinary perspective. It begins by clarifying that academic freedom is distinct\u00a0from freedom of speech. Academic freedom entails the right to critically examine the\u00a0very structures and categories that shape our societies. It includes the\u00a0liberty to pursue\u00a0research not necessarily aligned with market logic or state interests, but grounded in the\u00a0curiosity, creativity, and serendipity that drive the pursuit of knowledge.<\/p>\n

Abstracts and Texts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Abstracts up to 300 words, accompanied by a short CV, should be submitted in English <\/span>by the 15 th of January<\/strong> to civilta.comparate@cini.it<\/a>. A notification of acceptance will be\u00a0<\/span>forwarded by the 31 st of January.<\/span><\/p>\n
