The result of lengthy research work,\u00a0the essays by Maria Ida Biggi, Marianna Zannoni\u00a0and Maria Dolores Cassano enable us\u00a0to retrace the brilliant career of a captivating<br \/>\nactress, one of the first female theatre company\u00a0leaders in Italy, loved and celebrated\u00a0by the public and the press, even before her\u00a0name was indistinguishably linked to the\u00a0image of a silent-film diva who entered history.<br \/>\nLyda Borelli perfectly embodies the\u00a0modern woman of the early 20th century: her\u00a0image as being emancipated, also constructed\u00a0through the female characters that she played\u00a0on the stage, contributed to creating the icon\u00a0of the belle \u00e9poque diva. Often the subject\u00a0of life-style articles in the society columns<br \/>\nof periodicals and newspapers, she caught\u00a0the public eye for the sophistication of her\u00a0toilettes. A forerunner of incipient modernity,\u00a0she was also the muse of contemporary\u00a0Futurist thinkers.
