font-size: 0.75rem; font-weight: 400; line-height: 1.125rem; text-align: left; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The history<\/span><\/h5>\n<p data-start=\"220\" data-end=\"553\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Teatro Verde<\/span><\/span>, inaugurated on July 11, 1954, is an exceptional example of contemporary architecture within the lagoon setting. Together with the surrounding park, it was created as part of a two-hectare extension of the Island, developed following the extensive restoration plan carried out by the Foundation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"825\">Designed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Luigi Vietti<\/span><\/span> together with <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Angelo Scattolin<\/span><\/span>, the theater can accommodate up to 1,500 spectators and draws inspiration from the tradition of \u201cgreen theaters,\u201d where landscape, art, and architecture merge together.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"1496\">The theater has a long and prestigious history of live performances. In 1954, it was inaugurated with the staging of the sacred work <em data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"983\">Resurrection and Life<\/em>, set to Renaissance Venetian music. This was followed by <em data-start=\"1041\" data-end=\"1050\">Arianna<\/em> by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Benedetto Marcello<\/span><\/span>, two symphonic concerts conducted by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Dimitri Mitropoulos<\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Le Baruffe Chiozzotte<\/span><\/span>, and a series of Japanese \u201cNoh\u201d performances. Over the years, the theater has hosted, among others, the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Theatre of Athens<\/span><\/span>, the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Th\u00e9\u00e2tre National Populaire<\/span><\/span>, the company of <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Annie Ducaux<\/span><\/span>, and the <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Oxford Playhouse<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1834\">Its musical programming has also been particularly significant: the latest festival, held between 2013 and 2014, featured performances by artists including <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Patti Smith<\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Kings of Convenience<\/span><\/span>, and <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Ludovico Einaudi<\/span><\/span> together with <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Paolo Fresu<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1836\" data-end=\"2273\">In 1999, thanks to <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">La Biennale di Venezia<\/span><\/span>, the acclaimed production <em data-start=\"1921\" data-end=\"1931\">Parabola<\/em> by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Carolyn Carlson<\/span><\/span> was presented here. On that occasion, the celebrated American choreographer and dancer declared that she had felt \u201cinspired from the very beginning. When I arrived at this theater there was a great vibration: the garden, the water, the woods all around.\u201d San Giorgio had become the island of dance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2275\" data-end=\"2566\">In 2023, at <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Teatro Verde<\/span><\/span>, the artist <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Mattia Casalegno<\/span><\/span>, together with the composer <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Martux_M<\/span><\/span>, created the video and digital work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cini.it\/en\/eventi\/il-teatro-verde-la-maschera-del-tempo\/\"><em data-start=\"2483\" data-end=\"2506\">La Maschera del Tempo<\/em><\/a>, commissioned by the Foundation\u2019s Digital Center \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cini.it\/en\/istituti-e-centri\/digital-centre\/\">ARCHiVe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"cini_font_small_sans_uppercase_titoletto\" style=\"font-family: DMSansBold, sans-serif; font-size: 0.75rem; font-weight: 400; line-height: 1.125rem; text-align: left; text-transform: uppercase; margin-bottom: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The restoration<\/span><\/h5>\n<p data-start=\"2588\" data-end=\"2799\">The amphitheater has always been exposed to the harsh lagoon environment and to flooding caused by high tides. In fact, the section of the theater located beneath the stage lies 0.82 meters below mean sea level.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2801\" data-end=\"2866\">The theater has undergone a long and complex restoration process.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2868\" data-end=\"3241\">In the first phase, the works focused on the stone seating of the terraces and the replacement of the plants forming the backrests, introducing new privet specimens equipped with automatic irrigation systems. This was accompanied by a broader maintenance intervention on the surrounding vegetation, allowing the structure to re-emerge within the park and toward the lagoon.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3243\" data-end=\"3671\">A second major conservation project involved the 1,350 square meters of gray and white stone paving: each element was carefully dismantled, surveyed, and numbered to allow its precise repositioning after restoration, recreating the great mosaic of the stage. Particularly important was the waterproofing of the entire surface, while preserving the original slope designed to create a magnificent platform for stage performances.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3673\" data-end=\"3913\">The restoration site also provided an excellent educational opportunity for future restoration technicians, involving students from <a href=\"https:\/\/uiavenezia.com\/\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">UIA \u2013 Universit\u00e0 Internazionale dell\u2019Arte di Venezia<\/span><\/span> <\/a>in the marble restoration work throughout the audience seating area.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3915\" data-end=\"4387\">More recently, the large metal trusses installed in the past were dismantled and removed, completely reopening the views toward the sides and the lagoon. Preparatory work is currently underway on the two buildings located to the right and left of the theater, which house ticket offices and services and play a fundamental role in connecting the theater level with the large underground area once used for storing stage equipment, dressing rooms, and set-design workshops.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4389\" data-end=\"4553\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">All restoration work, authorized by the Superintendency, is overseen by the architect <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Renata Codello<\/span><\/span> and the Foundation\u2019s Technical Office.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"ult-spacer spacer-6a280bdc6fcf4\" data-id=\"6a280bdc6fcf4\" data-height=\"30\" data-height-mobile=\"30\" data-height-tab=\"30\" data-height-tab-portrait=\"\" data-height-mobile-landscape=\"\" style=\"clear:both;display:block;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ult-space\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;
