Study day of the Early-Music Seminars 2012 | Child Soloists in Paris 1680-1720. Charpentier, Nivers, Clérambault, Campra.

Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice
plus MAY, 25 2012

The 2012 Egida Sartori and Laura Alvini Early Music Seminar includes a one-day study entitled Child Soloists in Paris 1680-1720 – Charpentier, Nivers, Clérambault, Campra.

The main theme for discussion is the child-soloist repertoire in late-17th and early 18th-century Paris and its historical and cultural context, as well as similar trends or further developments elsewhere in Europe. The phenomenon will be analysed from various points of view cutting across different fields: e.g. music technique and aesthetics, music teaching, the history of culture and the history of ethics. For this purpose, the workshop will be attended by representatives from two educational institutions still active in this field today (the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles and the Associazione Corale Cantori Veneziani), plus musicologists and historians specialised in the 17th and 18th centuries from various European and American universities. Some of the pieces of music discussed at the workshop will be performed at the end of the day in the striking setting of Longhena’s great hall in the former monastery of San Giorgio.
