Founded by Alain Daniélou in 1969, the Intercultural Institute for Comparative Music Studies has been active since then in popularising and disseminating some of the best examples of Indian music in Italy and Europe. In the wake of this tradition, which has seen performances in Venice of sitar virtuosos, such as Ravi Shankar, and for several years sitar courses in the Budhaditya Mukherjee Institute, this year a concert of Indian classical music has been organised with Shahid Parvez on sitar accompanied by Nihar Metha on tabla.

Ustad Shahid Parvez comes from one of the most important musical family schools in the Hindustan tradition (North India), known as Imdadkhani Gharana, and he is acknowledged as being one of the most authoritative experts on sitar in the current generation. With an international reputation, he has given concerts in major festivals of Indian classical music in India, Europe, the United States and Canada, where he directs the prestigious Sitar School of Music in Toronto. Ustad Shahid Parvez boasts a huge discography and has recorded with major Indian, European and American labels.
