Concert Venetiae, mundi splendor – Johannes Ciconia between Rome and Veneto, 1390-1412
In conjunction with the Early Music seminar, the Auditorium ‘Lo Squero’ will host a special concert featuring seven singers and instrumentalists selected by invitation and specialised in the late medieval repertoire.
Under the guidance of Barbara Zanichelli and Pedro Memelsdorff, the scholars will delve into the life and work of Johannes Ciconia, considered one of the most original and influential composers of his time. The event is a valuable opportunity to hear some of the Flemish composer’s finest compositions live, in a dialogue between past and present that restores voice and light to a central figure in early 15th-century European music.
Ensemble (seminar fellows):
Beatrice Pellegrino, soprano
Irina Olshvskaia, soprano
Marcel Jorquera Vinyals, tenor
Angelo Testori, tenor
Jaume Guri Battle, viella
Giorgio Leonida Tosi, viella
Gabriel Smallwood, keyboards
The event is organised in cooperation with Fondation Concordance (Basel), Alamire Foundation (Leuven), Irma Merk Stiftung and L.+Th. La Roche Stiftung (Basel), contributors of the winning scholarships.
The concert is free admission.
