Ibsen and Eleonora Duse
The exhibition Duse e Ibsen, curated by Maria Ida Biggi and organised by the Giorgio Cini Foundation, together with the Italian Embassy, the Italian Institute of Culture in Oslo and the NationalTheatret in Oslo, will open to the Italian public at the Casa di Carlo Goldoni, Venice on October 18. This year Oslo celebrates a double centenary: the death of Ibsen and Eleonora Duse’s performances at the NationalTheatret, Kristiania. In February 1906, three months before the death of Ibsen, Eleonora Duse, one of the greatest actresses of all time, went on a Scandinavian tour as a kind of pilgrimage to pay homage to the great playwright. By then she had become the most celebrated interpreter of his works. Through a series of panels organised as a chronological itinerary, the exhibition brings together testimonies and rare items, stage scripts with annotations, rewritings and corrections made by Duse, photographs of various scenes, especially those of the actress on the stage of NationalTheatret di Kristiania, posters and photographic portraits of the actress.
