Life in books
The library at the Giorgio Cini Foundation conserves an extraordinarily important collection of rare books: nearly 2000 printed and illustrated works from the 15th and 16th century, many of which are extremely rare, if not unique. Little had been known of this treasure before the recent completion of a catalogue by Dennis E. Rhodes, a specialist in early printed books who has spent several years studying these works. The outcome is two-fold: a thorough catalogue, soon to be released, and the exhibition Life in Books, which follows in the tradition of the show on the culture of books and printing in Venice held at the Marciana from 22 May to 29 July 2000, it too a collaboration between the libraries at San Giorgio and San Marco.
