Seminar on Samuel Beckett
On December 10, 2008 a Study Day on Samuel Beckett entitled Nothing to say will be held at S. Margherita Auditorium in the morning and at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in the afternoon.
Participants include: Carmelo Alberti, Fabrizio Borin, Dario Calimani, Paolo Puppa.
This study day, organised by the Giorgio Cini Foundation in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University, Venice, is dedicated to Samuel Beckett’s last poem, What is the Word. Various thematic papers will explore the specific language and evolving stagecraft in Beckett’s late poetics.
A series of collateral events will also take place: a monologue by Paolo Puppa featuring Impossible letters: a letter by Anna Lucia Joyce to Samuel Beckett.
In the afternoon, the movie Film (starring Buster Keaton in his last film appearance) will be broadcast, followed by some sections of Beckett on Film, a project by Michael Colgan.
Some theatre readings from Beckett’s work will take place.
The Study Day will end with a rare live performance of György Kurtág’s What is the Word. Samuel Beckett, Opus 30(a), performed by Giovanni Mancuso (piano) and Amy Gasparetto (voice).
