The Ludwig Van Picture Show//Of men and music
The video-musical series The Ludwig Van Picture Show continues: on Saturday, August 9 at 17 Alexander Hammid’s musical Of men and music will be broadcast.
Created eight years after the notorious short film The Hymn of Nations, a political propaganda movie on the musical celebration of Mussolini’s defeat at Gran Consiglio, this "excellent quartet of classical music shorts, intimate studies of, and fine performances by several artists” – as Variety defined it – is a quintet of the greatest music intepreters over half a century, portraiting them while performing and in their private lives. Rubinstein playing Spinning Song and Liebestraum, Nadine O’ Condor e Jan Peerce singing O Paradiso and Don Pasquale, Heifetz rehearsing Bach and Paganini. In the final scene, Dimitri Mitrooupolos is filmed while performing Liszt’s Faust-Sinfonia.
