The Ludwig Van Picture Show//Six gestures
The second video-musical date in the month of April at Palazzo Cini will be dedicated to notorious cellist Yo-Yo-Ma, who interpreted six movies by Canadian filmmaker Patricia Rozema, inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suites for cello solo.
The stories displayed in this film go beyond pure musical representation, featuring skating performances, Piranesian jails, micro-gestures, all behind a detailed story of Yo-Yo-Ma’s life.
Born in Paris in 1955, Yo-Yo-Ma, notable cellist of Chinese origin, was an enfant prodige and made his first TV appearance at the age of eight, next to Leonard Bernstein.
Yo-Yo-Ma’s favorite cello was built in 1733 by Domenico Montagnana in Venice, and with it he played music by Beethoven, Sostakovich, Bach, Paganini, Lalo, Saint-Saens, Haydn, Schubert, Elgar, Walton, Mozart, Dvorak, Strauss, Boccherini.
Free entrance.
