Venice, 15 October 2020

After almost twenty years, the Giorgio Cini Foundation has a new Secretary General.

This was announced by President Giovanni Bazoli after the Steering Committee held today on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore: this is the architect Renata Codello, former Director of Institutional Affairs, who takes over from Pasquale Gagliardi, in charge of the position since January 1, 2002.

Renata Codello boasts extensive expertise in the management and enhancement of cultural heritage, expertise gained during a long experience in the public administration, where she held top positions. Deep connoisseur of the Venetian and Venetian reality, she was Superintendent of the architectural and landscape heritage of Venice and the lagoon from 2006 to 2014.

Until February 2018 she held the position of Director of the Regional Secretariat of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism for Veneto. Since 2018 she has been a consultant to the Presidency of the Republic.

To Pasquale Gagliardi – says the President of the Giorgio Cini Fundation, Giovanni Bazoli – goes the warmest thanks from all of us for having directed the Foundation with great planning initiative from 2002 to today, helping to consolidate its reputation as a symbol of culture and of Italian civilization in the world. Among the most important results of the Foundation during its management I want to mention the production of the facsimile of the Wedding at Cana by Paolo Veronese, the creation of the library of the Nuova Manica Lunga, the creation of the “Vittore Branca” International Center for the Study of Italian Civilization , the realization of the Glass Rooms with Pentagram Stiftung, the establishment of the ARCHiVe project, an international center for the digital enhancement of cultural heritage, the transformation of the ancient Squero on the Island of San Giorgio into an extraordinary auditorium overlooking the Venice lagoon.

I wish Renata Codello to consolidate the results achieved so far and to ensure an equally fruitful future for the Foundation “.

Renata Codello declared: «I thank the President Giovanni Bazoli and the Executive Committee of the Giorgio Cini Foundation for this position of great responsibility and prestige. The excellence of knowledge and innovation in research and its dissemination, which distinguish the Foundation’s activities, are fundamental themes in our time. Therefore I assure the utmost commitment for the future, sharing and enhancing the skills and experience gained by this great institution over the course of almost seventy years of its history “.
