From Gio Ponti’s founding of the legendary Milanese manufacturer of glass furnishings in 1932 up until Gae Aulenti’s departure in 1996, the present catalogue charts FontanaArte’s historical stylistic development in terms of 20th-century design: from the rational logic of Modernism to the playful wit of Postmodernism. The first exhibition featuring this major company, whose history is still largely unexplored, has set a new benchmark for pioneering studies in knowledge about glassmaking production and culture.
